Important Information Regarding Our School Calendar
Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff: I am e-mailing you today to apologize for any inconvenience the change in our school year calendar may cause for you and your family. As you know, this school year was originally scheduled to end on May 30. With the return of scheduled furlough days to our teachers and classified support staff, we are now able to extend our school year to provide additional instructional time for our students in grades K-11. This means that the last day of school is now Friday, June 6, with 8th grade promotions being held on Thursday, June 5. Please contact your individual school for any other end of the year activities. High School seniors will end their year on Thursday, May 29, with their graduation ceremony. We were unable to extend the year for seniors due to the fact that graduation announcements and invitations have already been ordered and include the May 29 graduation date. In addition high school graduations often prompt families to make travel plans for relatives well in advance of the ceremony. We are happy that we have been able to restore the full school year for our students, teachers and support staff. Our students deserve and need optimal instructional time, and our staff is enthusiastic about providing that time for them. We regret that the uncertainty of the state budget prevented us from being able to extend the school year before now. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this change in calendar may cause your family. As we approach Thanksgiving, we continue to be thankful for your support of our schools and our students. Sincerely, Dr. Kathryn Scroggin, Superintendent
